do you think poverty is exclusive to china? don't overweigh the significance of "average income" -- that doesn't mean that everyone makes that much. if everyone in the us made only whatever the average us income is, there wouldn't be very many pentium pro machines sold at all. even if only 5% of the chinese population is our market, it's a huge opportunity. also, don't forget the importance of hong kong (july 97), both in tangible economic terms, and in terms of giving the mainland more of a thirst for high tech.
