I have used MBT for four months with 56k modem. It is great much of the time but several times a day my quotes stop functioning . . . I have one friend who said this problem went away with ISDN, another friend who is a software expert said that ISDN made no difference
Rick,
For what it's worth, I experience the same problem with my DBC Signal Online data, and I'm running on a T1. The problem could be attributable to backbone hopping (from WinStar's backbone to whatever backbone to which DBC publishes, a switch that can cause latency) or it could be DBC or something else entirely.
As we are both experiencing the same thing using different services, and different connection methods, I'm inclined to believe that the problem is attributable to routing across different backbones (which causes asynchronous transfer difficulties). A solution to this problem might be to try to find an ISP that feeds into the same backbone to which MBT/Townsend publishes (you need to contact MBT and/or Townsend to find out to whom they connect; there may be more than one connection, e.g., UUNET and BBNNET, but then you would want to know how much bandwidth they purchase from each, and from whom they purchased the most). If they in fact have a big ass connection to UUNET, I'd be inclined to purchase a UUNET dial-up account and see what happened.
