I'm not dismissing NetWare's architecture and legacy problems. I'm simply pointing out that they've managed to create great products which are selling to major customers despite whatever legacy problems they may have. I'm also pointing out that Microsoft has legacy problems of its own.

In any case, you're right, income of $27 mil a quarter won't fund a lot of research. The assumption is that there will be some growth. Of course, neither did several years of actual losses, yet Novell managed to do enough research to come out with NetWare 5, NDS, BorderManager, etc...

As for installed base eroding, you would expect that when someone else comes in with a competing product. NT has made inroads and is not going to go away. Novell will have to share the pie with NT. On the other hand, all of Novell's really cool stuff has just came out or is just coming out. Let's check back in 6 months and see what's happened.
