I posted this on YAHOO about a recent experience with excimer treatment to someone concerned about the approval of the Visx system for hyperopia. For those that don't follow that board, I post it again here:

<<<I have related my story many times in the past of the LTK treatment of my eyes. It was over 4 years ago up in Vancouver. I will add to that story a personal experience with the excimer laser treatment.

Last Friday, my wife went up to Vancouver to have her eyes treated for myopia with the Visx machine. After seeing the extraordinary pain and discomfort caused by the excimer treatment, I will never recommend that treatment for anyone. While I have a great deal of faith in Dr. Johnson, who I think has more experience than anyone in North America with vision correction of all types, we were not prepared for the level of pain she experienced. A friend of my wife went along and had her eyes treated as well, and she experienced even more pain. Dr. Johnson's staff said not very many people experience very much pain, but two out of two people I know that have had the procedure done is 100% from my perspective. My wife started to gain some distance vision on Tuesday and I think after the corneal swelling goes down she will be able to see well. In time, I think she will come to accept the trauma for the enhanced vision.

While the treatment for hyperopia by the Visx machine may not be any more traumatic than myopia, there are from what I understand many more complications.

When I was treated for hyperopia with the SNRS LTK system, I experienced some discomfort the same day and for a day or two after. But my experience was like day and night compared to what my wife and her friend experienced. By the way, we live in California and when I was treated, I flew up to Vancouver by myself and flew back immediately after treatment. My wife and her friend flew up in the morning on Friday, were treated and flew back on Monday afternoon after a post-op examination. There is no way an excimer patient is going to be functional the same or next day.

Perhaps if others would share their experiences both with LTK and excimer laser treatment, you and others will feel some comfort in your investment in SNRS. I add SNRS to my portfolio several times a week when it hits its lows and will continue to do so until the AAO meeting. After that, the stock will move up based on investing by those who understand what impact LTK will have on their ophthalmic practices.>>>

<<<Regarding Visx customers acquiring LTK:

Dr. Johnson in Vancouver is probably the most prolific user of the Visx product and he said last week that every excimer installation will have an LTK system. He feels that it is essential to be able to treat the overcorrections that occur with the excimer.

For a successful practice that paid $.5M for an excimer, the cost of LTK is small.>>>
