John...you said, there's no market for low end PC's. First of all, I think these low end PC's were designed to attract the 60 percent who have nevered owned a PC because they were too expensive (over 2000 dollars). Therefore, the low ends do not apply to us above average users and hence we tend to play down its significance. Packard Bell has just introduced a complete low end pentium 120 with all the multimedia an average user needs for less than 1000 and this just might induce the have nots to visit their local pc store. Second, I have never seen a propriety machine, as you claim, being sold for less than 1000 with all the popular features like 8 speed CD ROM and 33.6 modem. So far, I have only seen second or third tier gray market pc's below 1000 dollars and are stripped to bare components.
