WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998--Franklin Telecom (OTC BB:FTEL) today announced that the Tempest 2.20, which is currently shipping, now includes G.711 Fax capabilities. Franklin's DSP code provides for automated detection of voice and fax.

According to Frank Peters, Franklin's Chairman and CEO, "Many people have the misconception that any product which handles voice traffic can take fax traffic as well. Actually, fax has been a challenge for many IP product manufacturers. Among our competitors, the few which have fax capability generally have accomplished this by allocating certain ports specifically for voice and others for fax. The important difference with our Tempest 2.20 is that our encoding automatically recognizes an incoming signal as either voice or fax and forwards it to any available port. In other words, all of our ports are fully capable of handling both voice and fax traffic."

Peter Buswell, Franklin's President and COO added, "At the recent Internet World trade show in New York City, it was clear that G.711 is a serious distinguishing feature of our Tempest System. Some of our larger competitors were promising delivery in six months: we're shipping fax today."

In addition, Franklin's proprietary Authentication, Mapping & Accounting Server (AMAS) and Billing Software which are components of the Tempest System have been upgraded to enhance ease of use for customers. Both of these Microsoft Back-Office based applications now feature Wizard-type installations from a single CD.

The primary business of Franklin Telecom, founded in 1981, is the design and manufacturing of communications devices, high speed LAN, WAN, Telco and Satellite Systems and software. Franklin has an installed base of over 100,000 nodes worldwide. Franklin's Internet subsidiary FNet provides VoIP global Telco services.
