I just came across this thread and it's interesting to see I'm not the only one having problems with Green Line. It took me over 15mins yesterday to CFO 1 order. And that was just waiting for the WEB pages to update. I don't think I have ever come across a site this slow anywhere on the Internet! It's a shame about their performance because I think the design of the site and services they offer are quite good. I sent an email to Greenline about this but no reply as yet.

So far my best experiences have been with Royal Action Direct and E*trade canada. Investorline is a joke. All you can do is enter orders, you can't CFO, cancel or status orders online. You have to wonder what was going on in the minds of the people who designed that system. It's also important to keep in mind that Canadian securities laws require Canadian brokers to manually check orders entered online as opposed to the US where they can be routed directly to the exchanges. This fact alone says something about the attitude of the powers that be towards online trading in Canada.

Keith, with regard to moving your trading to a US broker can you do that if you are a Canadian Resident? Last time I checked Canadians were not allowed to have US Broker accounts, and Americans are not allowed Canadian accounts. I remember some controversy raging about this not long ago affecting the snowbirds. This is a good reason why the Canadians can keep their commissions so high and service so lousy.

Also on the topic of US brokers does anyone know of a US Internet discount broker who will allow settlement of Canadian trades in Canadian dollars?

Brad
