tippet,
Again, just my interpretation. If God is infinite, then God is everything, and in that way, so are we God, with his light within us. Those of us who forget are still in the darkness of Egypt. Yes, I believe God the Father was with Jesus the whole time. I believe what Jesus was saying was that the men who killed him, did so because they forgot the God inside of them. In forsaking the light within themselves, they forsook themselves, God, and Jesus. How many times do we turn from what is right because some may be watching who might not approve? How many times do we rationalize away the truths of the spirit? I don't believe Jesus was asking why God the father turned his face away, but why man turned his face away from the light of God within himself, sealing Jesus' fate, and in so doing, choosing to remain in the darkness of Egypt. Jesus whole life was lived as a lesson to us. I sincerely doubt his time of Earth would end in an expression of lack of faith. I believe he was speaking of OUR lack of faith, and hiding our own faces in shame.
If we turn our backs and turn our faces away from the light of God within ourselves, then aren't we living on a cross now? And since we are in the image of God, then haven't we turned our face away from ourselves? Jesus and the Father are all-knowing, they had no reason to speak to or doubt each other. The Bible is not a history book, but is happening now, within each of us. IMHO
