Re. "do we care?" - it reminds me of a popular story from famous collection of short-stories panch tantra (five tricks). On old hag, stingy in his entire life saved a lot of moolah. He then converted all his life savings in to gold. He was paranoid about being stolen. So he took it away form the village and in to the woods where he dug a hold and hid the gold in it. Every day, in the morning, he would go to the pit, dig out the gold and look at in admiration and put it back in the pit.
A thief noticed the old man's routinely going in to the woods and coming back bright eyed. One day he followed him to the pit covertly and merried himself with the gold loot, replacing it with nice and shiny rocks.
The next day the villagers reached out to the old man who was crying out loud at the pit for the missing gold. They couldn't understand why he would be so upset since the gold served him any purpose. So, they advised him to really thank that the thief for those shiny rocks and follow his routine as usual. For, it wouldn't really make a difference if it were gold or rocks.
Connection: thief - dell, intel, microsoft, and cisco insiders old hag - starry eyed suckers. gold - high priced shares of these bloated companies rocks - same shares, but trashed-up!
