Well, whether you believe it or not you are incorrect, and your submission has been proven to be false. "There may well be some patient shorts but I don't think that there are a lot of them and I maintain that their average holding period is a fraction of the average long holding period. Short selling is an inherently short term trade by it's very nature. One can not even claim long term capital gains treatment on a short sell. Of course you seem to forget that there is only a fraction of the number of short shares held compared to long shares. I'll see if I can dig up the documentation on the study to which I refer. Barb
