If we could get it out of our system on one day, that would be great, but it is unlikely. The fear of monsters, goblins, and boogeymen is just basically a fear of the unknown. It is the basis of all or our folk stories, myths, and other forms of trying to explain the unknown.

Little kids dressing up on hallowen serves somewhat of the same function. It is an attempt within a safe and fun environment that little children can address some aspects of their fears. Adding to those fears by saying that they are unwillingly and unknowingly paying homage to the Devil is harmful and serves no purpose, IMO.
