To me, this is the typical cautionary tone that I've been getting from Ampex all along. Again I look at this as a positive for the company due to the fact that they are not overplaying the fact that this is new cutting edge technology that has yet to be proven on the production line. However, they are getting very close to making this new technology a reality! As has been said, Maxtor is showing some LEADERSHIP in the field and making a decision to be the FIRST to market with this HIGH TECHNOLOGY product. Gus has pointed out some crucial arguments regarding the importance of being the first to market. This will definitly give Maxtor an advantage over the other companies, should everything go as planned in the development stage. This is where I believe Ampex is being cautious due to the newness of the technology and yet to be proven(yet just that much closer to reality) in a manufactoring environment. Also, I was doing some research on the patent of the keepered media which was posted on this board not to long ago and I have come to the conclusion after very careful examination that I am 99.9% positive that this test and demonstration of a 5GB product was only the result of Ampex's PATENTED KEEPERED MEDIA. If you look at the patents you will find the technical description of the test products "components" as described in laymens terms by the reporter from the Wall Street Journal. This would not be so obvious to one who has not seen the patents. I was so convinced that I added to my stake in AMPEX! This is especially so because the "DEMO" was done with the future MR heads. As for the reason for the price drop after the announcement, I believe this is a gift from the heavens for us less fortunate ones to get in before the soon, eventual ascent of AXC to the stars above. Also, it could be because the Q4 was revised downward .01 according to ZACKS. However, 97 was revised upward by .04. So, I believe this is the beginning of more upward revisions as the story of this one unfolds. Those of you who are focusing solely on KM if you read the letters to the shareholders you see that KM is just one technology that AMPEX is pursuing to bring to market. There are many more technologies under their belt as Mr. Bramson has specifically pointed out! There is enormous potential with DIGITAL TV coming real soon and not to mention the ROBOTIC LIBRARIES technology. Can you imagine when all these technologies come to market together! HMMMMMM! I always wanted to FLY. Time to dust off my old private pilot license and log book. john anderson
