As I remember it the only restrictions on an IRA are that you can't borrow against it, ie no margin, and you cannot purchase insurance in an IRA, other than that you can do virtually anything you want to just like a regular account. Most brokers will not let you go long options in an IRA because of the legal liability and potential bad press about some person losing all of their retirement money. plus you cannot write off a loss in an IRA. But check with your broker, I do know that you can go long options in your ira.
