It's not so much about the arithmetic here and now. It is about where the Republicans are headed if they continue on the track that they have chosen during the last year or so. As for the Republicans being so bad, I don't think they all are. Take a Rep. like Tom Campbell in CA. If I were in his constituency, it would take a very good Democrat to get even my vote. But the dominant voices in the Republican party right now are those from the truly obnoxious characters -- Gingrich, Lott, Hyde, Barr... (let me stop before I throw up!). They have to be purged ASAP, in the long-term interests of the party as well as the two-party system of governance. Dipy.
