Sand Technology Systems Affiliate,Hitachi Data Systems Canada,
Declares a $2,000,000 Dividend

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1998--SAND TECHNOLOGY SNDCF
SAND TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL INC. SNDCF today
announced that its 40 percent owned affiliate Hitachi Data Systems Inc. had for
the second time in the past twelve months declared a dividend to its
shareholders.

The most recent dividend, payable in October 1998, totalled $2 Million. The share
of Sand amounts to $800,000.

Arthur Ritchie, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sand, said that Hitachi
Data Systems Canada had continued to perform very well through fiscal 1998 and
the first half of fiscal 1999. Sales of mainframes are picking up again in Canada,
after several years of low market activity. Even more important was the very
strong resurgence of Enterprise Storage sales as Hitachi has again become the
market leader in terms of product functionality and excellence.

Mr. Ritchie concluded by saying that this injection of funds into Sand "would be
used to fuel the growth of the Nucleus Series of products and for the acquisition of
related technologies."
