You don't have to prove anything to me, Mama. It's just that you made a statement and indicated that there was some research to back it up. Turns out that wasn't quite, uh, accurate and you believe what you do about shorts because, well, that's what you believe. Passive voice (like, "it was decided") is usually used when responsibility (like WHO decided) is obscure. It happens that it was hobos, not con artists, that used to mark fences and barns with symbols that indicated things like "Kind lady lives here" or "Vicious dog" for the next hobo. Just like everything else, you got it just a little wrong.
