Phewwww..advising family and friends on religion, politics and investments is very risky.

FWIW I don't THINK it would be unreasonable for DELL to perform extremely well over the next couple of years. The greater problem are the markets themselves. They've been very jittery, for good reason, and can turn on what may appear to be a non news event. Were you around when some bonzo started a rumor about Dell a week or so ago? That's a perfect example of the sheep getting spooked by a shadow.

There are a lot of factors for your friend to consider regardless what stock she is thinking of investing in. Her tolerance for risk, what the $30k represents of her personal wealth, what she feels is an acceptable gain, etc. If she has NEVER invested but still insists on jumping in on a stock I would try to encourage her to start with a smaller position and buy when new opportunities present themselves. On the other hand, where else can she invest her money and receive any decent return on her investment?

As you probably know, DELL is a heck of a company and the stock has treated us all quite well. IMHO I think there is a good chance it will repeat the past year's growth. However, as we approach the year 2000 I think the markets will become more conservative and once it is proven we will exist and grow after January 1, 2000 they will try to make up for lost time.

Since I do not have a crystal ball this opinion is worth about as much as the paper it is written on ($0.00)

Wish her the best of luck and make sure she understands any of us (especially you) can only share an opinion. The crystal ball inventories have been depleted.
