The R10K problem was a manufacturing glitch, NEC admitted fault and replaced the bad chips at no cost. The charge to SGI was the cost of retrofiting systems with the new parts. It was most definitely _NOT_ a design problem. I understand your frustration (and I share it) but please get your facts straight.
