Being in business, I get so many calls, from Marketing companies and scamsters. One I get every 6 months or so, is companies that call and say they are doing a survey, they are surveying companies to find out what kind of office equipment they are using.
They claim they are calling far away, and they use fancy names for their companies.
They want to know what type of printers and copiers you have. If you tell them, you may be set up for a scam where they send you product like toner, that is very expensive (sometimes 100% more than the retail price).
This may not happen for many months after you gave the info, as you would have forgot.
This toner would be made for your specific model of machines, so a girl at the front desk would figure someone in the company ordered it, would accept it and pay the bill.
When any of these companies call, we say we are not allowed to give that information out, and the other party hangs up, usually quite angrily.
If these companies were for real, all that data is collected when you register your products you buy, and it is often shared with other companies, for a price. Just like your name and address is sold to marketing companies....you should be getting mail order catalouges for Christmas right now. |
