Telia chooses Ascend Access Switches to Meet Sweden's Growing Internet
Access Demand
STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1997--Telia AB, Sweden's national telephone
company, has announced plans to incorporate Ascend's MAX family of WAN access switches within its points
of presence (POPs), in order to meet customers' growing demands for Internet access. The MAX order will
effectively double the number of modem ports Telia has available for dial-up and Internet access at the start of
1997. At the same time, Telia has announced plans to migrate from analogue to digital modems in order to
provide more sophisticated services, such as mobile access via GSM, to its customers.
"Incorporating Ascend's world leading MAX 4000 and MAX TNT WAN access switches within our POPs will
enable Telia to further enhance the high quality and cost-effective service we can provide to our fast growing
customer base," said Thomas Svensson, Vice President, Telia Network Services.

such as ISDN and high speed modems, and our adoption of Ascend's digital modem technology will also simplify
both the management and control of our dial-up Internet service."
