Hi Frank - Did you see that Alcatel (11/5/98) has successfully demonstrated the capability of transmitting more than 15 million simultaneous voice circuits on a four-fibre pair system of transoceanic length. From their press release..."...Utilising wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), where several channels of information can be sent down a single fibre, Alcatel has achieved a record 6150 km transmission experiment with 32 channels, each at 10 Gbit/s, over a single fibre, giving an overall capacity of 320 Gbit/s per fibre. This experiment is the first reported demonstration of 32 x 10 Gbit/s transmission over transoceanic distances with such efficient use of the optical spectrum, using narrow channel spacing, at 0.4 nm, and 10 Gbit/s bit rate..." I was wondering if they were utilizing DWDM technology and if perhaps CIEN's technology would complement their WDM system? EKS
