TS,

<So, Cisco will have to sit and wait until MSFT eventually releases Active Directory while Lucent releases a simple NDS extension for their switches and starts making sales at the expense of Cisco's loyality to MSFT>

I beg to differ. NDS may be the industry leader, but it has far from reached market acceptance. Do you remember who the market leader in Directory Services was prior to NDS ? Banyan's Street-Talk. Remember them ? Fact is, directory services have been looking for a reason to exist. Networking vendors will help sell directory services, not the other way around.

So, in this debate, I think many are missing the point. Cisco won't be hurt by chosing MSFTs AD. MSFT will benefit from CSCO's leadership in networking and this will drive AD sales.

The real question NOVL has to ask is how much business will LU drive for NDS ? Looking at LU's data networking record vs. CSCO's will give you the answer.

Cheers,

Peppe
