Thanks to you and Spots and any others who responded to my cry for help. No, I saw from the beginning that the DIMMs had to go in straight. Still only one out of three DIMM slots would let me "seat" securely.

I've listened to advice and tried it. Unfortunately I've decided this mb is just no good and shipped it back to egghead.com from whence it came. Again thanks to everyone who responded.
