I repeat myself on this point quite a lot but it is a big misconception that there are "cheap" overseas disk drives. Virtually all of the world's disk drives are manufactured in Asia. Most of Fujitsu's drives, for example, are manufactured in Thailand and the Philippines. Seagate is the single largest private employer in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore and has a huge plant in Wuxi, China. And so on. The issue isn't so much the cost of labor (as suggested by the phrase "cheap" overseas anything) but in the design itself, the line of supplied parts (primarily heads and media) and the margin sacrifices companies make to get market share.
