Since I'm almost never a trader, I tend to buy the company (of which the stock is an abstract representation of the increase/decrease in value of the company and its potential). The factors that you listed are either items I use when evaluating the company or short-term momentum/physchology factors that eventually cancel out.

Small-cap stocks take extra "care and feeding". They can rapidly gain or lose market position. Management can change rapidly, they have less following and analysis.

As for wanting to work for a company, when I chose my current company (AlliedSignal), potential stock growth was a big factor I looked at because of 401(k) contributions.
