Dell signs OEM deal with Network Appliance

Dell Computer has again turned to a mature technology provider to bolster its enterprise aims, on Wednesday signing an OEM agreement with Network Appliance. Products resulting from the agreement will be available from Dell next year, according to the companies. Network Appliance makes multiprotocol network-attached storage appliances, caches, and file servers, which it calls "filers." The agreement fleshes out Dell's enterprise products, which include its range of notebooks, PCs, servers, and storage. Data General's Clariion storage division is Dell's OEM. The agreement with Network Appliance is not the first to highlight Dell's interest in high-end storage technology. In addition to the company's agreement with Clariion, signed in April, Dell last week signed a technology development and distribution agreement with Veritas Software, in which the two companies will collaborate on disk and tape management technologies. Dell Computer Corp., in Round Rock, Texas, can be reached at (800) 388-8542 or www.dell.com. Network Appliance Inc., in Santa Clara, Calif., can be reached at (408) 367-3000 or www.netapp.com.
