J.D. -

That snip from Greenberg's column contains a bit of good news.

Of course, he assumes that Iomega supporters don't know about the Sony HiFD. Wrong again.

The good news was this: "HiFd will hit the stores in several weeks. A spokesman says the new product, geared to go head-to-head with the Zip, will be heavily advertised and promoted after the first of the year. The disks will be priced slightly higher than the Zip's 100 megabyte disks."

If this information is correct, it clearly indicates that HiFD will not be hitting stores in quantity before the end of the year. Sony's approach is never to promote a product until they can deliver it in large numbers. Also, "HiFD will hit the stores in several weeks" seems to indicate retail arrival in mid- to late December at best.

The later it is, the better it is. For Iomega.

It's also good to note that Sony says they will price the disks above Zip disks.
