November 6, 1998

Nikkei English News via NewsEdge Corporation : (The Nihon Keizai
Shimbun, Nov. 5, 1998)

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Yamaha Motor Co. will on Jan. 12 release a bicycle
equipped with an electric motor to relieve riders from having to pedal all the
time. The New Pas MH Super, developed jointly with Sanyo Electric Co.,
has a nickel-hydrogen battery which lasts 30% longer than conventional
batteries, a company official said.

The bike switches to economy mode whenever it is on a mild slope or any
other place where no major assistance is needed, thus conserving electricity to
use when the rider simply wants to cruise. The 26-inch model is able to travel
assisted on a flat road for 80km, compared with 60km on a conventional
model.

Price: 108,000 yen for 24- or 26-inch models

14,000 yen for battery charger
