Tim,
There is an article on the Fleet Operators' website (sorry, I've lost the URL) that states that cars and trucks (but not fire trucks) should be unaffected by Y2K. They quote a letter from GM that states, "Most of the electronics have no date-related functionality and hence are calendar date-independent. Those few systems that do have date-related functionality, such as the driver information center and entertainment system displays, are Year 2000 capable and driver programmable, and, therefore, not a concern."
"FMC reduces the issue to one, simple question: If you are driving home from a Year 2000 New Year's Eve party, are you going to get stranded? The answer is, 'no'."
Other manufacturers claiming no Y2K problem (for their cars and trucks, not for their manufacturing plants) were Toyota, Chrysler, Nissan, Saab, and Volvo.
