3dfx Presentations/Demos?

Timbur, was that LAN party in Orange County CA?

Nope. Austin, Tx.

It amazes me how paltry many people's systems still are. I could have sold some Voodoo2's there if I had thought to bring some.

Does anyone know whether 3dfx has been making presentations at college campuses or other areas with large congregations of potential hard-core gamers? Seems to me they would benefit from a setup where you put a SLI-powered machine next to the same machine with software rendering, connect them with ethernet, and let people play. The more machines, the better.

I guess now is too late for that, but I swear there is still a powerful market for 3D add-in cards. I started selling computers recently; things haven't worked out the way we wanted, mainly because people want the cheapest shit they can get, and I try to sell only quality components. (Less RMAs) I end up having to talk people into buying i740 cards! (My main supplier does not sell Banshees yet, and the other suppliers want too much for them.) This is not only with me, but with all of the OEM shops in town. The sub-$100 market is VERY strong. This will be good for Banshee when it gets picked up by the discount distributors. Still, I wonder how 3dfx will maintain its margins.
