<<Significantly, was it more than about
eight months ago, prior to the introduction of the "Apple store-within-a-store"?
CompUSA was notorious (though not unique) for much of the behavior you
describe, but with the deal with Apple came a bit of a policy change on that score.>>

My only experience with CompUSA is with the one store here in Scottsdale which I have visited a half dozen times over the last year. The help is as others describe. That is, not helpful, knowledgeable and sometimes not even present. If it weren't for the armed guard at the entry, patrons could load up shopping carts full of product and walk out the door unnoticed. Two months ago I visited to see what the Apple "store-within-a-store" was all about. There were four machines on display, actually a reduction in the number of Macs since a year ago, one didn't work and the laptop was a long since discontinued model. If they are growing profits, it beats me how they are doing it with an operation like this. Steve Jobs needs to stop by and see how his agreement with CompUSA is being implemented.
