Wolfgang, The reason they've gone up recently is that on Wednesday they reported 11.5% increase (Alaska Air) and 34.4% increase (Horizon Air) over a year ago. Given that, and that the current 38 price leaves their P/E at less than 8.5, I would still see them as a buy, or at least a hold, even at 40.

I should mention I bought them earlier this year at 48, unloaded at 58/59, so they've been at this altitude before (pun intended).
