Herein lies a story: Bezos has prided himself as a bit of the underdog to traditional book sellers and distributors and has flagrantly positioned himself in opposition to them. The market has greatly rewarded that bold positioning strategy with an obscene stock valuation. While out of one side of his mouth saying that they are the "World's largest on-line bookseller" and that they have more titles than anyone, on the other side he is moaning "we are a little struggling start-up about to be crushed by competitors who are maneuvering against us. Mommy fed, please protect us!" Competition can be tough in the real world.

Grind those cost structures down to the ground, collapse those duplicated functions and facilities, and dazzle the public with great values and meaningful content and associate programs. Make people happy to do business with you (an offer they can't refuse) and you will be rewarded. Go BarnesandNobel.com!!! Smite the Goliath Amazon!!!
