I believe that the I.R.C. (internal revenue code) prohibits the purchase of options in an IRA. I've talked to Waterhouse Securities, Lombard, and Charles Schwab and they've indicated that they don't allow trading of options in an IRA. They will only allow protective puts and writing of covered calls in an IRA. You might want to check with an accountant (although I'm an accountant, individual taxation is not my area of specialty).
