Newt and the freshman Republicans that goaded him in 1994 destroyed Newt. They overreached their mandate as did Clinton in 1993-1996. Just as Clinton thought a 43% vote gave him a license to redo the health care system, Newt and Newt's freshman overstepped a 55% majority. Both Clinton and Newt lead by rhetoric rather than action; i.e., bluff and bluster to try to push through agendas.

It's too bad now that Clinton's latest health care fix, the Medicare cost containment, has thrown more people into the ranks of the uninsured. The Democrats are an absolute disaster for the medical insurance system. Are they that stupid or are they purposely being this reckless to try to cram down a nationalized health care system by forcing people out of insurance coverage? Any sensible manager of a trust would have as his first objective to first and foremost do no harm to the customers that are being served. Instead, they craft programs, such as limitations on drug reimbursements, HMO lawsuits, and community rating, that benefit a small vocal population and that force people to drop coverage and insurers to raise premiums.
