Hi,
I wouldn't get too hung up on "fancy" colors. What gives these stone there high price per carat is the clarity (inclusion free), shape (octohedrons-least wastage when cutting)and size. The implied size distribution is what is intriguing to me here. From the 10 carat stone reported from the two 100 tonne mini bulk samples (I recall about 256 carats in total recovered), one can infer that on future sampling, about 4% of the total carat weight recovered should be stones about 10 carats in size.
By the way, the valuation of US $347/carat? I wonder if that was the best possible price offered by a diamondteer or a low ball offer in a soft diamond market?
regards,
teevee
