The problem faced by Microsoft shareholders is that to justify its stock's price, Microsoft had BETTER take over the entire world. Any weakness could cause this house of cards to come crashing down, particularly given the way they compensate their employees. Expectations, and consequently the stock's valuation, are very high.

Nobody is arguing they don't make money. At least for now.

Late edit: Put another way, "taking over the entire world" is already priced into the stock.

JMHO, of course.
