Elaine, have you ever really read one or two or three of the magazines from the ZD family? It's interesting reading. Many is the time when I have seen a particular computer or peripheral or software package or whatever completely panned by one author/editor/columnist and touted as the greatest thing since sliced bread by another in the same issue of the same magazine. It gets right comical at times.

A couple of things about this specific pick:

1. Have they ever really come to a standard on DVD? It seems like everywhere I read about this, the main advice is "WAIT!" because some, if not many, of the players are going to be obsolete just because they did not follow the standard which was decided on after they were sold.

2. A CD-RW and a DVD? At least one of them is going to be thrown away soon, since "DVD-RW" or whatever is imminent. It looks like Gateway was trying to get rid of some inventory fast, before they couldn't use it for a doorstop.
