Terrence.. I realize that your posting took a lot of calculation, time and effort to produce, but, if one does the same analysis of trading patterns on various area plays that are predominately listed on major exchanges such as the TSE and the MSE, one will find similiarities occurring...
For instance...
If one keeps observing the block trades that occur on the various exchanges one will find that there are a series of events that occur...
I'll use Kinross for an example... If one looks back into the block trades for the month of September, one will find that there was a ton of block trades that occurred near the end of month in the 3.75 to 3.95 range...The stock then shot up to over the 5.00 range in the beginning of October.... The same thing started to occur...Tons of block trades and then the stock drifts down to below the 4.00 range again... Last week the same thing happened in the 3.75 to 4.00 range... Guess what??? It's now in the 4.30-4.50 range again, with a minimal amount of block trades...Gold price is not an attributing factor in the subsequent increase in share value, what then is???
Manipulation???!!!... It's everywhere!!!...It's everywhere!!!... Not only on exchanges...
The small investor has to attempt to get a minute edge somehow...
I used to concern myself as to who was selling stock, at what price and then I try and figure out why...
Now I look for situations where one is buying/accumulating stock, at what price and then I try and figure out why...
We can't beat the big guy's, but we sure as hell can join them in their games and hopefully profit in some small way...
By developing rumour/information sources, before they hit the mass populations on the streets, is another edge...
You stated:
>>>There are two sides to every trade so by adding up both sides of that action we can find who are the most active players. The net position doesn't give you this perspective.<<<
Those 2 statements are true, over a realtively shorter period of time... Taking the bolded statement in context over a longer period of time, say over a 1-3 month time frame, one could paint a different picture...A few days, unless the stock is exteremely bullish (ARP for example in the low $2.00 range) doesn't give u the correct picture, but just shows u who is doing what... I do believe the larger context must be taken into consideration and then put into ones perspective...
I'm sure there are a chitload more edges that can be developed, but those are 2 that I use and right now me feeble mind is developing a major domo ache (last night's residuals kicking in), and I'm gonna sign off...
