Tom, re: the StarHub release ( #56915 ):
Maybe I'm missing the point here. Or, maybe I am not in tune with what is acceptably reqarded as supplying an IP service.
Can you or someone else here tell me what the hardware platform is within ASND's product line that is going to satisfy the IP component of their claim? They mention that they will:
"...deploy IP-based equipment for the data network of Singapore's latest telecommunications carrier, StarHub Pte Ltd...."
...and that they will:
"provide Frame Relay, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and IP products that will form the backbone of StarHub's network. This includes Ascend's GX550, CBX500 and STDX9000 switches."
The GX550 is a superb, IMO, ATM Core Switch.
The 500 is a multiservice backbone to edge unit for the delivery of ATM and FR.
The 9000 is a champion Frame Relay device.
But, in the absence of a GRF or even an OEM IP device, where's the IP coming from? Unless the message here is that other people's IP flows can simply ride over the ASND ATM or FR PVCs using MPOA or some other means of IP over ATM and/or FR protocol.
Tom? Anyone? Where's the IP part coming from that would support ASND's claim in this release?
Or, is there no need to answer this question for the obvious.? And, like I said, I may be missing something here.
