yes, the delay in switching to rmbs has certainly been the cost and also the fact that the tech involved is not backwards compatible. of course it needed to be proven as well, and the developers had to be given every opportunity to improve present products. intel has taken the lead and clearly made the statement that rdram is the future as far out as they can see. intel must love it, because we will all need new computers again.

this same lack of compatability may give rmbs a very long life span. it may be equally or even more expensive for the manu's to switch again in the future.
shortly, sdram will be in the dinosaur exhibit at the smithsonian.
