Hal,
I appreciate your views on standards, but consider this...
Paradyne and Globespan are "just one small company with a Proprietary line code"....Cisco uses proprietary algorithms in their routers, right?..they're doin' pretty good. Point is...
These two companies are successful and flourishing.. Whatever you say about CAP&MVL; they are out there and working. Most of the installed base of XDSL is CAP.
Regarding MVL , it operates within the ISDN spectral masque by design. This is one reason why it can be in the same binder group as T1s or other disturbers and be unaffected. I could go on , but innovation and standards have never had much in common. Those providers who want to offer services today and profit will get the critical early adopters. DMT & GLite will get mass deployment opportunity when it is available, deployable, and outperforms the competition....at least I hope things still work that way. There are some CLECs out there who are going to be 800 pound gorillas in 1999 with CAP, MVL, and other technologies before Glite is trialed and runs past 12000 feet in the presence of bridged taps.
Just my opinion, though. And God knows I've been wrong before; hey that's why I'm here on this thread!
Best regards Mike
