Mr. K --

I posted that article not because I agreed with everything in it (as my intro indicated), but because I thought it had some good insights.

For example, I like the term "flabby centrism", as applied to Establishment publications like The New York Times. In fact, if I remember correctly, for years the Times was a bastion of Rockefeller-style Republicanism. (I have in mind the editorial page, of course.) Truly "subversive," "anti-establishment" views & themes simply do not appear on the New York Times editorial page, or in the op ed columns either.

The stuffiness of publications like The Times is most in evidence in their handling of foreign affairs. One example (which I posted about recently): in the first few weeks after the air raids on Sudan and Afghanistan, not ONE newspaper that I regularly follow questioned the US right to act like a lone cowboy, or pointed out that other countries could use the same justification to act in a similar fashion. Now, if any true "leftist liberals" had been among editorial page editors, you can be sure they would have raised a clamor about this from the outset...

"The Left" has even less of a voice in shaping public opinion that "The Right" does. Where are the left-wing Rush Limbaughs? Nowhere...

P.S. And how do you explain the fact that most major newspapers -- if not all of them -- in this country called for the President's resignation?
