Well said William, my reason for spending time on SI is primarily to learn (I have a small stake in DGIV given the off chance that they do make it big someday... I do not own any other stocks). However, I do follow about 45 other stocks rather closely, some are pennies, most are nasdaq microcaps, others are blue chips. I personally learn best from experience and observation. SI can be a major source of information for not only individual companies, but also for various investing strategies as well. So the trick for me is to establish a network of people whom I value the opinion of (These people don't even have to know me or the fact that I'm reading their analysis). After reading up on some particular issue, I can then make a judgement (prediction) based upon my observations as to what it will do that day/week/month. Then, at my leisure, I can take a look at the chart and see how I'm (hypothetically) doing... try and find out what caused a turning point etc... basically gain the experience and knowledge to be used in my future years of trading.
You and Zebra may or may not be right about your inferences towards me due to my "college kid" status... it is not my intentions to wow anyone or to "know how to fight." It is my intentions to learn about investing, in every aspect of the word. Don't get me wrong, of course I like to discuss things other than investing, hence my reason for doing so. However, my primary reason for reading SI is to establish a network of people whom have opinions that are valuable (ie. don't stink :-), and to learn from those opinions. My reason for posting to Jane and Zebra is not to instigate a fight, but rather to attempt to explain to them that while acting in such a confrontational manner, neither of them offer any substance whatsoever, and that such actions disrupt the flow of information. It has been my observation that there is certain info known about Digitcom (nothing earth-shattering) which is not being shared simply because people do not want Jane, LE etc. to know it (for any number of reasons). If such people could be a little less condescending/arrogant, the information would flow more freely, which is what I seek to attain.
Now, I realize that, for whatever reason, you cannot get through to some of the individuals spoken of here. As a result, 9 times out of 10 I choose to ignore said people. I know that it is a waste of my time to discuss things with them... I cannot learn anything from them because they choose to be so offensive. If, what I perceive to see is an unbiased argument, that is compelling enough to accept a certain conclusion, then I begin to tune in and ask questions, wonder about implications etc. Otherwise I just click on by in search of something of greater value and/or interest to me.
Enjoy the remainder of your weekend guys and gals... Dave |
