Looks like I stepped into it, Pierre.

But my words were not meant so strongly. In no way was I thinking of any textbook excellence in marketing. But I did think perhaps Intel had taken a few steps in differentiating themselves from AMD and Cyrix. Previously all could offer a 486 chip. Some of the John Q. Public's shopping at his local CPU might have noticed the 586/Pentium distinction and some might have looked for an Intel Inside logo. No revolution. Just some might have noticed.

But for the last four iterations of chips, the names are so similar, some people might even believe they have the latest chip out there. Had there been a name change or two, some might have felt they were left behind and that it was time to upgrade.

No INTC worship coming from this corner.
