This will propel FORE into the new market. That is, the carrier market and should bring in additional revenue stream. This revenue should be pretty substantial also considering the carrier, SPs and CLECs segment tend to spend a large portion of their budget on equipment.
IMO, FORE should appreciate very well in 1999, if they do not get bought out. The chance of FORE being acquired before 1999 ends is 75%.

======== a section from the article that is significant=====
In the next six to nine months, Fore intends to add software that will allow the ASX-4000 to support port-level redundancy and access concentration, company officials said. New network management features will include billing, accounting and provisioning.
=========

Port level redundancy is one of the key features for service providers for flexible high-availability. IMO, this shows FORE is way way ahead of others not only in ATM technology, but also in other areas such as high-availability.
