Since peaking in 1995, shares of SGI have traded within a well-defined
long-term downtrend. The sharp 1997 rally quickly
reversed, and the stock has attempted to hold in a sideways
range during much of 1998. Unfortunately, the stock has lately
broken its January lows, suggesting that the downward trend
remains in force. Given that one has to go back to 1992 to find
a time when the stock price was this low, we have not listed a
major support. Such levels may no longer be relevant given that
relatively few investors who purchased the shares back then are
likely still holding them; however, as a point of reference, the
ten-year low in the stock is $3 3/8. As a result, we recommend
investors exercise caution with respect to the shares until a
significant base has been established and the stock begins to
show a little strength by overcoming initial resistance levels.
