K6-2-350MHz vs. PII-450MHz Performance in Trespasser:

"Don't have a question.....just a couple observations that I have made and am passing along the info. I had some time this weekend (finally!!!) to really dig in and play with this game. I setup a couple of different machines to test this game on. I have two machines that I put together this weekend. One is a AMD K6-2 350, Shuttle 591P 100 MHz mobo, 128 meg 100 MHz SDRAM and a Monster Fusion PCI Voodoo 2 card. The second machine is identical except for the P2 450 and a shuttle 100 MHz P2 mobo. Running the game in hardware mode and 800X600, I found that the AMD chip did distinctly have an advantage over the P2 chip. I noticed it almost immediately, but when I saw the 2 huge Diploticus'. At this point the P2 was choking big time. And one point I was walking towards them, and the next thing I know I am under there feet.....talk about lag. The AMD machine did not studder or miss a frame. So after seeing this, I decided to pull out my old Intergraph Voodoo Rush! card. After finally getting all the new drivers, etc for it, I got it to work. I put this adapter in the AMD machine. I still noticed a differance over the P@ machine. It did choke when it had all the polygons of the two huge dinosaurs to keep track of, but not nearly like the P2 machine with the voodoo 2 did. I guess the moral of the story kiddies, go out and get yourself an AMD chip if you want to play the new breed of games coming out. Hell, for what you spend on the P2 processors, you can but the chip, the mobo, and a kick ass 3D card. On to SIN......I am going to apply the same tests to that game as well. See you around!!!"

What you are witnessing is that 3DNow in action in Trespasser. Trespasser is the most complex 3D game to date. The game interaction is based on the principle of physics. Every action and reaction is calculated on Newtonian laws of motion. This mean the CPU has to churn out monstrous calculations for every action you make. Even a PII-450MHz is having a hard time keeping up with a decent frame rate. This is where K6-2-3DNow shines. 3DNow adds more realism to 3D games. Now you understand why I have stressed all along that K6-2 is superior to PII. Furthermore a K6-2 is very affordable. Currently there are 8M installed based. It will surpass 10M by end of December. 3DNow is here to stay. KNI is 3DNow imitation. Intel understand this. That is why they are selling CeleronA for minimal profits just to slow down 3DNow. Fortunately, AMD has plenty of supply K6-2 to sell it at ASP $100.
