Samsung to invest $150 mln in U.S. plant
SEOUL, Nov 9 (Reuters) - South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said on Monday it would invest another $150 million in its semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas, through payment guarantees.

The electronics giant said the amount would be part of $250 million being raised by Samsung Austin Semiconductor to make 64-megabit dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips.

The amount will bring the total payment guarantees given by Samsung Electronics to its U.S. unit to $607 million.

A spokesman for the firm said the investments would be used to renew and expand semiconductor design at the U.S. plant.

''We expect the manufacturing capacity to increase from the current three million 64-megabit DRAMs per month to over four million per month after the expansion,'' said Yoon Jong-jin, a Samsung Electronics spokesman.
