Legato Systems Announces the ''Legato San Ready'' Certification Program
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1998--
Legato SAN Ready Program Helps Users Involved in Deploying
Interoperable Storage Area Network (SAN) Data Protection Solutions
Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:LGTO), a leader in the enterprise storage management software market, today announced the Legato SAN Ready Program. The program addresses a key business requirement of companies and organizations that are planning to optimize storage performance and minimize storage administration through dedicated SANs based on Fibre channel.
Faced with many hardware and software options, companies and organizations are forced to evaluate numerous hubs, routers, switches, and other SAN components to configure a compatible SAN solution that meets their needs. With Legato NetWorker and these new SAN technologies, the Legato SAN Ready Program makes implementing advanced storage management faster by helping Legato customers easily identify interoperable SAN hardware components that are certified with Legato's SAN-enabled products. Please refer to the August 17, 1998 announcement, "Legato Systems Announces Immediate Support for Storage Networks."
"Legato's Enterprise Storage Management Architecture enables our customers to benefit from key SAN-based storage management features. For example, Legato NetWorker Storage Nodes off-load the backup traffic from the LAN to the SAN, while Legato SmartMedia provides sharing of expensive tape libraries," said Nora M. Denzel, senior vice president of Legato Systems, Inc. "Additionally, pending the completion of our merger with FullTime Software, Legato's clustering solutions will provide high availability for business-critical gaps in SAN environments. Legato's SAN Ready Program will provide our customers with instant access to a wide variety of SAN hardware solutions that are supported by Legato products."
The Legato SAN Ready Program is unique in that it does not enforce proprietary solutions, but instead allows users to choose the solution that works best for them. Legato's integrated approach to developing SAN solutions ensures interoperability across platforms, applications, and devices.
"Implementing a SAN today could involve a lot of trial and error," said Michael Peterson, president of Strategic Research Corporation. "You have two choices. Put random pieces together yourself, and do all the interoperability testing, or use vendors who have already certified interoperability. The Legato SAN Ready Program eliminates the guesswork involved in finding compatible SAN data protection solutions, and results in a win-win for everyone. Customers can quickly implement SAN technologies, while SAN hardware vendors can reach a wider market by participating in the program, concluded Peterson."
Brocade Communications Systems, Inc.
"Brocade, as a market leader for Fibre channel fabric solutions, is pleased to support the Legato SAN Ready Certification Program," said Peter Tarrant, vice president of marketing and business development at Brocade Communications Systems Inc. "A well-tested backup and restore SAN solution, with Brocade's award-winning SilkWorm switch and the Legato NetWorker and Legato SmartMedia products, will simplify the deployment for enterprise users."
3Com
"Cooperation among leading industry players is essential to accelerate acceptance of SANs in the mainstream enterprise market," said Randy Meals, vice president and general manager of 3Com's Storage Networking Division. "Until now, storage management software has been the missing piece of the puzzle. 3Com is pleased to be one of the inaugural members of the Legato SAN Ready program, and to include Legato in their 3Com StorageConnect Solutions program."
Computer Network Technology
"We believe Legato's SAN Ready Certification program will be important to businesses that are implementing a Storage Area Network," said Mark Knittel, vice president of marketing at Computer Network Technology. "We are pleased to be part of a program designed to provide businesses with compatible SAN products, and to be able to offer an enhanced backup and restore solution with Legato through the combination of our UltraNet Open Systems Director with Legato NetWorker and Legato SmartMedia."
Crossroads Systems, Inc.
"A major boon for anyone deploying a SAN solution, Legato's SAN Ready Certification Program virtually eliminates the time-consuming task of evaluating components and subsystems for interoperability," said Bob LiVolsi, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Crossroads Systems, Inc., a market leading manufacturer of storage routers. "The SAN Ready Certification program brings high value add, simplifying the path to installation for VARs and end users. With Crossroads' routers acting as the critical link to implementing SAN solutions with SCSI devices, minimizing the risk in installation success ranks high in our corporate values, and minimizes the time and effort associated with installation."

"This program can provide added assurance to new and existing users that they can build and extend their SANs with pre-certified products, and receive benefits of SAN architecture immediately. The open standards that govern SAN products provide an environment that builds optimum solutions from multiple vendors."
Jaycor Networks, Inc.
"As a leading supplier of Fibre channel connectivity solutions, Jaycor is pleased to participate in the SAN Ready program with Legato," expressed Alan Land, director of business development at Jaycor Networks, Inc. JNI has been testing hardware and driver components together to ensure customers seamless hardware integration. The Legato SAN Ready program blends their highly acclaimed software into another verification to guarantee enterprise customers the reliability and compatibility they have come to expect."
StorageTek

"In this environment, certification programs such as the SAN Ready program from Legato are critical for ensuring customer success. StorageTek is pleased to work with Legato as we bring our SAN disk, tape, and connectivity solutions to market."
Vixel
"Vixel, a market leader in end-to-end SAN interconnect solutions, actively endorses Legato's SAN Ready Program and shares the vision with Legato that tested, proven solutions will accelerate the adoption of Storage Area Networking," said Brian
Reed, vice president of marketing at Vixel. "The combination of Vixel's integrated family of Fibre channel hubs and switches, transceivers, and fault management software with Legato NetWorker and Legato SmartMedia products reduces the risk and simplifies the deployment of a true end-to-end SAN Solution."
